One birthday, two lost teeth, and four Christmases

December has been the craziest month for us. My baby, Alexis, turned two on the 6th. She wasn't feeling great, barely recovered from an ear infection. We took her to one of those jumping places with just our immediate family and my mom. She had a pretty good time but wasn't quite herself. Here's one of her tasting the icing to her cookie cake.

Not long after her birthday her "big girl bed" came. I always fret about the adjustment of getting the little ones into a bed when they can actually get out!! You never know what kind of war it will be keeping them in the bed. It went so much better than I imagined. She loved it and I think it was because she loved being in the room with her brother and sister. I'm sure it made her feel more included.

Next, it was time try and get some good shots of my own kids for a Christmas card. Its almost impossible to get a good shot of three kids together that young so, although this one's not perfect its the one I used.

I also ended up with some shots I really liked of Samuel and Brianna. Alexis was on the move and I couldn't catch a really good one of her. I still have so many shots to process from that day. You may notice Samuel is missing a tooth in this one and now he's missing the other one, too. I'm glad I was able to capture this snaggle-toothed smile.

Samuel and Brianna were also in a Christmas musical at church. It was just about the cutest thing I've ever seen! Brianna really doesn't like attention so I figured she would chicken out and Samuel was complaining of looking like a bumble bee the week before BUT they both pulled it off and made their mommy a really special memory. I'm so thankful to all the adults who worked and continue to work so hard with the children at our church.

Next, I'm posting some random shots of our four Christmases. Some of the ones of my dad, step-mom, and two sisters are from a visit a few weeks earlier. I didn't manage to get my camera out each time so I don't have pictures from each Christmas. Sometimes when I have my camera with me its like having another child because it takes so much of my attention and I'm better off leaving it in the case. (The white balance is probably all kinds of wonky in all my indoor shots. I upgraded to the 5D and couldn't help but take a lot of indoor shots since its specialty is low-light.)

The first two are my two teen-age little sisters, Allison and Melissa.

This is Christmas at their house.

This one is from Christmas at our house with Chance's dad, step-mom and little sister, Lacey.

I think this one is my favorite shot of the month. I really wanted a low-light shot of the kids in front of the Christmas tree before tearing into all the gifts.

Well, I think that's enough for now : ) Next time I'll share some from my December sessions...

Christmas Cards

Its time for me to start thinking about Christmas cards for those of you who are interested in Christmas cards. I LOVE Christmas. Its one of my favorite times of the year. I think I love just about everything about it. The food, the smells, the decorations, giving gifts, shopping....

I've just purchased some great Christmas Card templates from a designer I just love. If you have had a recent session and want to use your images for your Christmas card or have an upcoming session the cards will be $35 for a package of 25 cards. The square one is 5x5 and the rectangles are 5x7. Here are the examples....

Well, it just occurred to me that some of you may not know that we are expecting our fourth child in March. I thought I should probably let everyone know that I plan on taking a long break from photography after the baby is born...probably at least 6 months. I will make sure and send an e-mail to everyone on my list when I get back into the swing of things. If you want to make sure I have your e-mail let me know. You can also check my blog to see if I've announced my return : ) Anyway, I know it seems a little early to be planning these things but I'm now booking for December and just wanted to make sure that anyone wanting pictures before March will have the chance.

Well, I can't post without any photos and here are some recent ones. This first little guy was so easy and photogenic, too. His sweet baby sister is below. She wasn't so happy towards the end of the session but that's to be expected with the little ones. I love her sweet expression here and her long eyelashes.

I'll start by sharing from a couple of recent sessions. Here are two brothers from again, another really sweet family I got to meet and photograph.

This was a pretty quick session as I think little Will tired out after crawling all over the place. I just love his twinkling brown eyes.

After wrapping up these sessions we had planned to head to Pagosa Springs, Colorado with two other families with kids around the same age as ours. We've had this trip planned since this summer and we were all praying for good health. It seemed impossible to keep 7 kids under six healthy for the week but for the most it worked out. Chance got really sick the Saturday before we left and even had to miss his brother's wedding. He just got up Sunday and started packing. I know he didn't feel great but after taking it easy a couple of days he was good to go. We had sooo much fun. We did some short hikes 3 out of the four days and then rode a train from Durango to Silverton one day.

This little guy LOVES trains as you can see by his attire. Its just so cute how all kids have thier own little interests. His face was so glued to the window I'm surprised I got this shot.

I think Alexis's expression here is just after hearing the whistle of the train. We were running a bit late (I know you can't imagine us being late with 7 kids trying to be somewhere at 8:15 in the morning) so instead of squeezing us in the back car we got almost the WHOLE front car to ourselves.

Here's one of Mati and Zeke sitting in this cool stump thier mom, Katie, and I spotted on one of our hikes.

Here's a sweet shot of Chance and the kids while they're all laughing at Mati hamming it up. ..followed by some more random hiking shots.

We also celebrated Samuel's sixth birthday on the trip. I can't think of much more fitting for him than a week with friends. I just loved this shot of him while the kids were playing a hiding game with pinecones one morning.

The lazy days of summer have passed.

Its amazing how fast things can change. It seems like just yesterday I was bored and tired of being home. Now we're back into the routing of the school year and things are crazy busy but its good. Samuel and Brianna are both playing soccer and that's what takes up the most of our time these days. Its Brianna's first (and last season) and she cries every game...mostly the whole time. Dealing with her is really a struggle but I've vowed not to be hard on her and defeat the whole purpose of her playing... FUN. She enjoys practice most of the time and is at least getting good exercise. Samuel, on the other hand is really fun to watch as he's improving and really enjoying it.

Here are some shots from some sessions I've done so far this fall. I just love this one of little Levi.

These are from an engagement session and there were so many vary different shots. Here are a few of my favs.

Here are the shots from the last session I did. They were brave enough to come out in the rain and wait for it to calm down. The lighting was perfect just a little tricky trying to find a place to sit.

Summer Sessions...

This post wraps up most of my summer sessions with the exception of one I forgot to ask permission to blog. The first one is of Mr. D who was quite a trooper. I chased him around as I do all of the little ones and got lots of great shots. He even fell out of my wheelbarrow and hardly shed a tear (probably not using that prop again. I've had nightmares of kids falling while I'm taking their pictures..YIKES!)

Next is little Mrs A. There are tons more from this session I could share as well. I LOVED the location for these. These were taken in Chandor Gardens which is a really beautiful place with a waterfall, stairs, ponds, bridges, and flowers and pretty cheap to get in. The only downer for photogs is their hours are really bad for lighting. We did this session at 9am, when they opened, but needed to be earlier for better lighting. She's such a pretty little girl and she looked so sweet in her little brown dress.

The last ones here are of one of the sweetest families I've met. They were just so friendly and patient after traveling over an hour and endured at least 100 degree temperatures.
